About the Sinister saga
'Sinister' is one of Blumhouse's horror series. Scott Derrickson directed 'Sinister' (2012), which he wrote with C. Robert Cargill, in which a true-crime writer (Ethan Hawke) moves his family into the house where a murder took place and finds in the attic a box of home movies hiding something far worse.
Behind those recordings is Bughuul, an entity that feeds on children's souls. Made on a tiny budget, the film was a hit, and in 2020 a study that measured viewers' heart rates named it the scariest film ever made.
'Sinister 2' (2015), directed by Ciarán Foy, brought back the first film's deputy, played by James Ransone, in a new house marked by Bughuul. Derrickson went on to Marvel with 'Doctor Strange' and returned to horror with 'The Black Phone'.
