About the Saw saga
'Saw' began in 2004 as a small film: James Wan directed it and Leigh Whannell wrote and co-starred in it on a budget of just over a million dollars, and 'Saw' went on to take more than a hundred million worldwide. Its villain, Jigsaw, played by Tobin Bell, puts his victims in deadly traps to prove how much they value their lives.
It was such a hit that a new film arrived every Halloween for seven years in a row, from 'Saw II' to 'Saw 3D' (2010). Darren Lynn Bousman directed the second, third and fourth, and in 2010 the series entered Guinness World Records as the highest-grossing horror franchise up to then.
After a break it returned with 'Jigsaw' (2017) and 'Spiral: From the Book of Saw' (2021), starring Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson. 'Saw X' (2023), set between the first and second films, put Tobin Bell back at the centre of the story and was the best reviewed of all. 'Saw XI' has been announced.
