Biography

Born in Madrid and his childhood was marked by the republicanism. He spent his childhood in schools run by republican teachers where he received a liberal education. He studied a degree in history and worked for years as a literary critic, in this years he interested by cinema and he wrote some screenplays that were adapted to the big screen. Those films were thrillers involving strong female characters. Victoria Abril was his best actress appearing in most his productions. 'Nobody Will Speak of Us When We're Dead' was his first film as director and he won two Goya's awards to best screenplay and best director. In 2001 feature together Victoria Abril and Penélope Cruz to shoot 'No News from God' that he received eleven nomination to Goya's awards. In 2006, he started to shoot 'Captain Alatriste: The Spanish Musketeer' starring Viggo Mortensen.
