  • Country: Spain

Ester Expósito has been active for 9 years, participating in 8 movies that average a 6.4/10 score.

Biography

Ester Expósito was born in Madrid on 26 January 2000, into a family with Galician roots in the coastal town of Viveiro, and acting got hold of her early: as a teenager she twice won the best actress prize at the Community of Madrid youth theatre awards, in 2013 and 2015.

Her screen career began quietly in 2016, with bit parts in the prison hit 'Locked Up' and a fleeting film debut in Rodrigo Sorogoyen's thriller 'Que Dios nos perdone'. A recurring role in the fantasy cop show 'Estoy vivo' followed in 2017. Then came the audition that changed everything.

Carla Rosón and worldwide fame

In October 2018 Netflix released 'Elite' worldwide and her Carla Rosón, the icy young marchioness of the Las Encinas school, instantly became one of the characters of the year in one of Spanish television's biggest global hits. Alongside Danna Paola, Itzan Escamilla and Miguel Bernardeau, Expósito stayed for three seasons, until 2020, while also appearing in 'La caza. Monteperdido' and in Manolo Caro's miniseries 'Someone Has To Die' (2020) with Carmen Maura.

Fame spilled far beyond the screen. During the 2020 lockdown, a video of her dancing in her bedroom to a Rauw Alejandro song went viral, and that spring she overtook established footballers and celebrities to become the most followed Spanish person on Instagram, a community that is close to 30 million today.

From horror lead to festival prizes

On the big screen she moved through thrillers such as 'Cuando los ángeles duermen' (2018) and 'Tu hijo' (2018), opposite Jose Coronado, the family comedy 'Mamá o papá' (2021) and Paco León's 'Rainbow' (2022). Her first big lead came from Jaume Balagueró in the horror tale 'Venus' (2022), in which she plays a dancer on the run who hides in a cursed apartment block, a performance that won her the Fotogramas de Plata for best film actress, an award voted for by the Spanish public.

She also worked with Mexican director Amat Escalante on 'Lost in the Night', screened at Cannes in 2023, and headlined the Mexican Netflix adventure 'Bandidos' (2024), which returned for a second season in 2025.

The real turning point was 'The Wailing' (2024), Pedro Martín-Calero's debut about an invisible violence haunting three women, in which she stars alongside Mathilde Ollivier. The film competed in the official selection at the San Sebastián Film Festival and won the Silver Shell for Best Director, with critics singling out her most mature work to date.

A year later came 'The Talent' (2025), directed by Polo Menárguez and written with Fernando León de Aranoa from an Arthur Schnitzler classic. Her Elsa, a gifted cello student facing a humiliating dilemma at a high society party, holds a tense duel with Pedro Casablanc that earned her the best reviews of her career.

Away from the spotlight

For someone with that many followers, she keeps her private life firmly shut. Her best known relationship, with Mexican actor Alejandro Speitzer, whom she shared the screen with in 'Someone Has To Die', lasted from 2019 to 2021; since then she has kept romance out of the headlines. In 2025 she also took part in 'Bardot', a French documentary about the life and myth of Brigitte Bardot.

Next up is 'Enfrentados: Marfil', a Prime Video adaptation of Mercedes Ron's bestselling novels directed by Óscar Pedraza, in which she stars with Hugo Diego Garcia, and a sequel has already been ordered. At 26, the teenager who broke Instagram records has earned something far harder to get: serious critical respect.
