- Country: Spain
Miguel Bernardeau has been active for 10 years, participating in 6 movies that average a 6.7/10 score.
Biography
His first job, back in 2016, was a single episode of 'Tell me how it happened', the long running Spanish family drama his mother starred in and his father produced. Ten years later, Miguel Bernardeau is one of the two leads in the film Spain has sent to the Oscars. In between there's a Netflix series that changed his life and several years spent trying to stop people calling him Guzmán.
He was born in Valencia on 12 December 1996. His mother is the actress Ana Duato, his father the producer Miguel Ángel Bernardeau, who founded Grupo Ganga, and the choreographer Nacho Duato is his uncle. He has a younger sister, María. He trained in Los Angeles, studying drama at Santa Monica College and then at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Guzmán
He made his film debut in 2017 in 'Es por tu bien', a comedy about three fathers plotting against their daughters' boyfriends, and the following year played Maribel Verdú's son in 'Ola de crímenes' (2018).
Everything changed with 'Elite', which Netflix put out in October 2018. He played Guzmán Nunier Osuna, the insufferable rich kid at Las Encinas who gets more interesting as the show goes on, across four seasons and 32 episodes. It was a hit in a great many countries and made overnight names of Ester Expósito, Arón Piper, Itzan Escamilla and María Pedraza.
He got off after the fourth season, in 2021, and spent a couple of years looking for the next thing. There was a small part in '1899', the Netflix series cancelled after one run, and the lead in the Disney+ musical drama 'Our Only Chance' (2022), opposite the singer Aitana, who he was living with at the time.
His film choices stayed smaller and stranger. In 'Josephine' (2021), Javier Marco's first feature, he is a prisoner whose mother falls for one of the officers, with Emma Suárez and Roberto Álamo.
Zorro, 'Querer' and a leap off a cliff
His first real leading role was Diego de la Vega in 'Zorro', the version Prime Video launched in 2024, complete with cape and sword.
The job that changed how people rated him arrived the same year. 'Querer' is a four part drama by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa about a woman who reports her husband for decades of rape, and he plays the son who takes his father's side. It brought him a Feroz Award nomination in 2025.
In 2025 he led 'Terra Alta' for Movistar Plus+, playing the Catalan police officer Melchor Marín in an adaptation of Javier Cercas's novels. Then in February 2026 came 'La fiera', Salvador Calvo's film, based on real events, about three friends who get hooked on wingsuit BASE jumping. Carlos Cuevas and Miguel Ángel Silvestre are the other two.
Rafael Rodríguez Rapún
The part of his life so far is in 'La bola negra', the film by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, the pair Spain knows as Los Javis. He plays Rafael Rodríguez Rapún, the last love of Federico García Lorca, a mining engineering student who was killed at the front a year after the poet was shot by Franco's side.
It premiered at Cannes on 21 May 2026, where the directors took the best director prize, and went on to win the audience award in Toronto, in Sydney and at San Sebastián, where it scored higher than any Spanish film has in that vote. Spain has picked it as its entry for the Oscar for best international feature.
The cast around him includes the singer Guitarricadelafuente, Penélope Cruz, Lola Dueñas and Glenn Close. He has said the shoot left him altered, that by the time it was over he was somebody else.
He says as little as he can about his private life. He spent four years with Aitana, from 2018 until December 2022, a relationship confirmed in 2019 and covered daily by the Spanish gossip press. Since late September 2026 he has been linked with the Latvian model Zhanna Red, after the magazine 'Semana' ran photographs of the two of them leaving his parents' house. Neither has said a word about it.
Next up is 'Playa Negra', a surfing series produced by Gaumont with his family's company. Ten years after that episode of his mother's show, the surname doesn't explain much any more.
