Plot

This movie is an adaptation of the famous Ubisoft video game saga based on the character of Desmond Miles, created by the Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol. This film presents a new character, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender), a man who, due to the unblocking technology of genetic memories, has access to the memories of his ancestor Aguilar in 15th century Spain and discovers that he is one of the descendants of the Assassins secret brotherhood. As a consequence, the lead character gains the ability of the assassin's master in order to fight against an currently Templar organization.

Justin Kurzel ('Macbeth') directs the film, whose script has been written by Bill Collage ('Exodus: Gods and Kings'), Adam Cooper ('Tower Heist') and Michael Lesslie. The cast is completed by Marion Cotillard (Sophia Rikkin), Javier Gutiérrez (Tomás de Torquemada), Jeremy Irons (Alan Rikkin), Ariane Labed (Maria) and Brendan Gleeson (Joseph).

Trivia

Michael Fassbender as a producer

Michael Fassbender lobbied as the producer of the film for it to be directed by Justin Kurzel, with whom he had worked before in 'MacBeth'. He also chose Marion Cotillard as his co-star.

Justin Kurzel's approach

Kurzel didn't want the movie to feel like a superhero film, he wanted to embrace "what it is to be human" through practical effects and parkour-intensive stunts.

Alicia Wikander

Alicia Vikander was considered for the role of Maria before Ariane Labed was cast. Vikander dropped out as she chose to do 'Jason Bourne' (2016) instead.
