Hubie Halloween

Nobody in Salem, Massachusetts, takes Hubie Dubois very seriously. He works at the deli, lives with his mum, is scared of practically everything and has been the town's favourite target for pranks since school. He still loves Halloween, though, so much that every year he patrols the streets, thermos in hand, to make sure the night goes off safely.

This year it won't be so easy. A patient has escaped from the local psychiatric hospital, a very strange neighbour has just moved in next door and, in the middle of the festivities, people start disappearing. Trouble is, the police have spent years ignoring his calls, and they're not about to start listening now.

'Hubie Halloween' is Adam Sandler's Halloween comedy for Netflix, directed by his regular collaborator Steven Brill from a script by Sandler and Tim Herlihy. The cast is packed with familiar faces: Kevin James, Julie Bowen, June Squibb as Hubie's mum, Steve Buscemi, Ray Liotta, Rob Schneider, Maya Rudolph and Shaquille O'Neal, plus Ben Stiller reprising his orderly from 'Happy Gilmore'.

It was shot in summer 2019 on Massachusetts' North Shore, with Marblehead standing in for Salem, and arrived on Netflix on 7 October 2020. The film is dedicated to Cameron Boyce, who was due to appear in it and died in 2019. Its average across the 26 outlets collected on Movienco is 5.4 out of 10.
