Knight of Cups

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Terrence Malick ('To the Wonder', 'The Tree of Life') and starring Cate Blanchett. Rick is a slave of the Hollywood system. Addicted to success, but at the same time desperate before the emptiness of his life. He is living in a world of illusions but looking a real life. Like the tarot card to which the title refers, Rick is bored and needs an external stimulus. But the King of Cups is also an artist, a romantic and an adventurer. The interior monologue Rick joins the voices of women who cross his path, women representing different principles of life: while one lives in the real world, the other embodies the beauty and sensuality. Which way will elect Rick? In the city of angels and the desert surrounding them, will he find his own fate?

'Knight of Cups' is written and directed by Terrence Malick and had its world premiere in February 2015, at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival. The title alludes to the playing card that in the Spanish deck and the film is divided into eight chapters (each with the name of a tarot card, except the final chapter, "Libertad"), plus a prologue, each one loosely based on the relationship of the central character with someone in his life: the moon, the hanged man, the hermit, the judgment, the tower, the priestess and death.
