Plot

'Love Me Not' is an allegorical drama that revives the biblical myth of Salome. Divided into two parts, the first stage of the film takes place in 2006 in the Middle East in a military environment, while the second one is set in the present day. In Yokanaan, a mysterious man is locked in a maximum security prison in the middle of the desert. Secluded by a powerful international army, the man is considered a terrorist by some and a prophet by others. When custody of this mysterious convict falls into the hands of the soldier Salome, daughter of Commander Antipas, Salome gradually becomes increasingly obsessed with the prisoner, unleashing harsh consequences on those around them as the two the struggle to maintain reason amongst the heady atmosphere of seduction, eroticism and violence that surrounds them. This is the metaphor used to debate the eternal question of to what extent repression generates monsters, freeing the dark side of human nature that we are used to taming.

The director himself, Lluís Miñarro, commented on the film: "The idea arose in response to the brutality of Abu Ghraib in the Iraq War, and at the same time, it is completed with the need to update a myth of Western culture as it is Salome's and explore ambivalence and gender".
