Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom

Although he is a teacher in Bhutan, the young Ugyen thinks that his destiny is far from schools, as he avoids his duties and plans to go to Australia to become a singer. As a punishment, and so that no more crazy things occur to him, his superiors assign him to the most remote school that can exist on the face of the Earth, a glacial village in the Himalayas called Lunana. After an exhausting journey through mountains and snow, Ugyen arrives in Lunana and finds that it is a school with no blackboard, no windows and hardly any materials with which to teach. Despite his precarious situation, the villagers give him a warm welcome but our protagonist must face a challenge that he would never have expected: teaching and giving classes with almost no materials. At first, he wants to leave because he is desperate, but little by little the children with their desire to learn will win his heart, rethinking all his decisions. Written and directed by Pawo Choyning Dorji, it stars Sherab Dorji, Pem Zam, Gurung Ugyen, Tshering Dorji, Kelden Lhamo, Norbu Lhendup, and Sonam Tashi Choden. It is produced by Dangphu Dingphu and A 3 Pigs Production, while A Contracorriente Films is in charge of distribution in Spain. Yi Chen Chiang, Duu-Chih Tu is the musician.
