Plot
'Mountainhead' (2025) is the directorial debut of British filmmaker Jesse Armstrong, known for his acclaimed series 'Succession'. This political and social satire delves into the world of tech moguls, exploring their arrogance, thirst for power, and the dehumanization that comes with digital capitalism.
In a luxurious mansion in the mountains of Utah, four technology billionaires gather for their traditional annual retreat. However, this time the meeting coincides with an international crisis triggered by an artificial intelligence update that destabilizes governments and economies. Isolated from the outside world, the entrepreneurs, played by Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youssef, are forced to confront their oversized egos and their delusional aspirations for power.
As the situation escalates, tensions among them reach a boiling point, revealing a struggle for control that oscillates between absurd comedy and psychological horror. The film becomes a reflection on the danger of concentrating so much power in the hands of a few, as the boundaries between truth and lies, ethics and greed blur.
With a narrative style reminiscent of his previous works, Armstrong creates a disturbing dystopia where the line between reality and fiction fades, offering a scathing critique of technocapitalism and the culture of misinformation.
