Two-to-One

In the summer of 1990, as Germany undergoes a seismic transformation following the fall of the Berlin Wall and moves steadily toward reunification, an East German family stumbles upon millions of East German marks hidden deep underground in a forgotten storage bunker. With the currency on the verge of becoming obsolete and losing all value against the Western deutsche mark, they launch a frantic, time-sensitive mission to convert it into something useful, taking advantage of legal loopholes, systemic contradictions, and the institutional chaos of the era.

What begins as a seemingly innocent operation quickly escalates into a high-stakes venture that challenges their ingenuity, tests their loyalties, and forces them to navigate the clash between two colliding systems.

Written and directed by Natja Brunckhorst, this high-energy comedy delivers a fresh, ironic, and deeply empathetic perspective on the uncertain and often absurd days of German reunification. Sandra Hüller ('Anatomy of a Fall', 'The Zone of Interest') leads a powerhouse ensemble in a story where sharp humor, social commentary, and emotional tension converge seamlessly. 'Two to One' shows how even the most complex moments in history can give rise to the most unexpected adventures, filled with chaos, hope, reinvention, and a profound sense of shared humanity.
