Wasteman

'Wasteman' is a British drama directed by Cal McMau and starring David Jonsson and Tom Blyth. The film, which premiered at the 2025 Toronto Festival, is released in the United Kingdom on February 20, 2026.

We find ourselves inside a British prison, where Taylor has already been serving his sentence for thirteen years. Now, at last, he may be released for good behaviour. In prison, one of his jobs is to regularly cut the hair of Gaz and Paul, other inmates from whom he also buys drugs. On the outside, Taylor has his 14-year-old son waiting for him.

Everything changes when, just as his release is about to be finalised, a new cellmate arrives for Taylor, Dee. Within a few days of arriving, Dee begins to deal drugs, taking over Gaz and Paul's business, while Taylor starts to strike up a friendship with his cellmate. The prison is drawn into a struggle for control of the drugs inside, and Taylor unwillingly finds himself caught in the middle of the two contenders vying for control.

The cast of 'Wasteman' is completed by Corin Silva, Alex Hassell, Neil Linpow, Paul Hilton, Layton Blake, Jack Barker and Fred Muthui. The film has received generally positive reviews, especially praising the work of Jonsson and Blyth as leads.
