Synopsis

'Western' is the story of a group of German contractors working on the construction of a hydroelectric power plant in rural Bulgaria near Greece. Despite the initial obstacle of the language barrier, the men soon find a sense of adventure and lose the prejudices they once held for the country including their apparent superiority over the Bulgarians. One of the men, Meinhard, who isn?t as close to the other contractors, goes one step further and even befriends the local townspeople. While at first, the Bulgarians are wary of having a German in the midst, they soon accept him. It is later revealed that as a former soldier, Meinhard has never experienced the same sense of community he?s been recently been shown.
