Plot

'What They Had' marks Elizabeth Chomko's debut film as a filmmaker, previously known as an actress for her work on 'Terriers' and 'Common Law'. Chomko, who also pens the film script, directs Hilary Swank ('The Homesman', 'Million Dolar Baby', 'Boys don't cry') in this drama seen through the eyes of Bridget, a woman who returns home at her brother's Nick, played by Michael Shannon ('Take Shelter', 'The shape of the water, 'The Man of Steel'), urging o deal with her ailing mother, Ruth (Blythe Danner - 'Meet the Parents', 'The Last Kiss') and her father's (Robert Forster- 'Jackie Brown', 'Mulholland Drive') reluctance to let go of their life together.

Taissa Farmiga ('The Blind Ring'), Josh Lucas ('Sweet Home Alabama'), Sarah Sutherland ('Veep'), Aimee Garcia ('Dexter') and William Smillie ('The Dark Knight') are some of the names that complete the cast of the film among many other stars, which premiered at the end of the year at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival.

The movie was also awarded with Best Grownup Love Story in AARP Movies for Grownups Awards, the Truly Moving Picture Award in Heartland Film and the Audience Choice Award for Elizabeth Chomko in Heartland International Film Festival.

Its soundtrack was composed by Danny Mulhern, who made the music for the BBC series 'Silent Witness'.

Robert Forster admitted in an interview to Deadline that his role in 'What They Had' is perhaps the greatest role he has ever been given. He was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 1997 for his role in Quentin's Tarantino 'Jackie Brown'.
