'What They Had' marks Elizabeth Chomko's debut film as a filmmaker, previously known as an actress for her work on 'Terriers'. Chomko, who also pens the film script, directs Hilary Swank in this drama seen through the eyes of Bridget, a woman who returns home at her brother's Nick, played by Michael Shannon, urging o deal with her ailing mother, Ruth (Blythe Danner) and her father's (Robert Forster) reluctance to let go of their life together. Taissa Farmiga, Josh Lucas, Sarah Sutherland, Aimee Garcia and William Smillie are some of the names that complete the cast of the film among many other stars, which premiered at the end of the year at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival.

In 'What They Had', writer/director Elizabeth Chomko returns to her hometown to create a moving family drama set in Chicago. Robert Forster admitted in an interview to Deadline that his role in 'What They Had' is perhaps the greatest role he has ever been given. He was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 1997 for his role in Quentin's Tarantino 'Jackie Brown'.
