'What You Gonna Do When the World's on Fire?' dives deep into the different neighborhoods in the State of Louisiana, in United States, particularly the city of New Orleans, which was once known for being one of the most prominent hubs for slavery in the United States. In this film, Roberto Minervini gets close to African-American communities to discover for himself the other side of the American dream: the exclusion, the racism and the poverty that pervade the lives of many. In particular, his exploration focuses on the latest changes in social and economic policy to come out of Trump's republican presidential era. Minervini wants to make a statement on the economic and social differences that exist today in the United States and the importance of defending the cultural diversity of the black community.
