Ever since it was announced that the new season of 'American Horror Story' would be a crossover between its first and third seasons, 'Murder House' and 'Coven', fans have been counting down the days until the release date. And now, after its premier, nobody has calmed down and Ryan Murphy's show is giving everyone a lot to talk about. Some scenes in particular, starring one of the show's regular actors, Evan Peters, have fans especially talkative.

In 'Apocalypse', Peters plays the part of Mr. Gallant, but the actor is also known for his role as Quicksilver in the 'X-Men' saga, ever since 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'. Those who are fans of both franchises have not been able to contain their excitement after having seen potential 'X-Men' Easter eggs in the new series, and there are several theories as to what this might mean...

Suspected References to 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' in 'American Horror Story: Apocalypse'

In the second episode of 'Apocalypse', titled 'The Morning After', John Croce's song, 'Time in a Bottle', plays across various scenes in which Peter's character appears. This would have no significance if it weren't for the fact that the song also was used in the in some of the most famous Quicksilver sequences from 'Days of Future Past', in which he uses his power of super sonic speed in order to free Magneto. Fans have thus begun to speculate whether this is more than just a casual coincidence and could in fact have greater significance to the world of 'American Horror Story'; one theory is that the apocalypse is actually occurring in the near future, meaning that the end of the world has not yet actually happened and that the Coven Witches will appear and prevent it.

Another theory, more in line with the 'X-Men' universe, is that at the end of the season (which is only 10 episodes long), time will restart itself and all the events of the apocalypse will cease to have happened.

Suspected References to 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' in 'American Horror Story: Apocalypse'

The references to the mutant world don't stop there, since in the episode titled 'Forbidden Fruit' yet another, even crazier Easter egg can be found, relating to the upcoming 'X-Men' film, 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix'. During the face-off with Michael Langdon (played by Cody Fern), Mallory (Billie Lourd) bursts into flames after an emotional outburst. Upon trying to discover the reasons behind this, Mallory comes to the conclusion that the radiation which she suffered during the nuclear explosions has given her these strange powers: exactly what happens to Sophie Turner's character in order to turn her into the Dark Phoenix. This reference is especially poignant as Evan Peters will also be returning to his role of Quicksilver in the upcoming Marvel film.

Easter Eggs in 'Deadpool'

Fans of the mutant saga are having to wait a long time in order to enjoy the new film in the franchise, meanwhile having to settle for mere cameos in other Marvel films; in a short scene in 'Deadpool 2' we are able to see various mutants meeting in a room in Charles Xavier's mansion, including Quicksilver. Evan Peters said that this scene was filmed during the recording for 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' and that they did several different versions. He claimed that he thought the idea was amazing and would by a "very funny Easter egg".

'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' will be released on the 14th February 2019 and you can watch the first trailer below.
