About the Back to the Future saga
The 'Back to the Future' trilogy was born of Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, who wrote together the story of Marty McFly, a teenager sent back to 1955 in a DeLorean turned into a time machine by his friend, the eccentric Doc Brown. Produced by Steven Spielberg, 'Back to the Future' (1985), directed by Robert Zemeckis, was the highest-grossing film of its year and won the Oscar for best sound effects editing.
Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd became one of cinema's best-loved double acts. The two sequels were shot back to back: 'Back to the Future Part II' (1989) travelled to 21 October 2015, a date fans celebrate every year, and 'Back to the Future Part III' (1990) took the characters to the Wild West of 1885.
The series ended with those three films, as Zemeckis and Gale have always said there will be no fourth. Its story went on beyond cinema: in 2021 it reached the London stage as a musical, and Alan Silvestri's score and Huey Lewis' song are part of pop culture.
