About the Evil Dead saga
'The Evil Dead' began in 1981 as a shoestring horror film shot by a young Sam Raimi and his friends in a cabin in Tennessee. 'The Evil Dead' turned Bruce Campbell into Ash Williams, the accidental hero who faces the demons unleashed by the Necronomicon, and became a cult classic.
Raimi and Campbell followed it with 'Evil Dead II' (1987), which blended horror with slapstick, and 'Army of Darkness' (1992), which sent Ash back to the Middle Ages. Then a new generation took over: Fede Álvarez directed the far gorier 'Evil Dead' (2013), and Lee Cronin brought the terror to a Los Angeles tower block in 'Evil Dead Rise' (2023), the highest-grossing film of the series.
The series kept growing with 'Evil Dead Burn', released in July 2026. Raimi and Campbell have stayed on as producers throughout, and Ash also had his own series, 'Ash vs Evil Dead' (2015-2018).
