About the Five Nights at Freddy's saga
'Five Nights at Freddy's' began in 2014 as an independent video game by Scott Cawthon in which the player is a night security guard at a children's pizzeria whose animatronics come to life after dark. Its success with young players made it one of the most popular horror franchises of the last decade.
Blumhouse brought it to cinemas with 'Five Nights at Freddy's' (2023), directed by Emma Tammi, with Josh Hutcherson as the guard Mike and Matthew Lillard in the cast. Despite cool reviews, it opened in cinemas and on streaming at the same time in the US and became the highest-grossing film in Blumhouse's history.
The sequel, 'Five Nights at Freddy's 2', opened on 5 December 2025, again directed by Tammi and starring Hutcherson. The animatronics of Freddy Fazbear and his friends were built for real by Jim Henson's Creature Shop.
