About the Power Rangers saga
'Power Rangers' began in 1993 as a Saban TV series that adapted the fight scenes of Japan's 'Super Sentai' for America, with American teenage actors. Five young people from Angel Grove, chosen by the wise Zordon, morphed into colour-coded warriors to battle the evil Rita Repulsa, and the show became a worldwide nineties phenomenon.
The move to cinemas came with 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie' (1995), with bigger effects and new suits, and 'Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie' (1997), which bridged into the next season of the show. The franchise has carried on on television for more than thirty years.
In 2017 Lionsgate released the reboot 'Power Rangers', directed by Dean Israelite, with a darker tone, Bryan Cranston as Zordon and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa. It did not perform as hoped and the planned sequel was never made.
