About the Sharknado saga
'Sharknado' is the most outrageous series in B-movie cinema: tornadoes that scoop sharks out of the ocean and hurl them at cities. Production company The Asylum made it for the Syfy channel, and the premiere of 'Sharknado' in July 2013 became a social media phenomenon, with thousands of tongue-in-cheek live posts that made it a cult film overnight.
Anthony C. Ferrante directed all six films, each starring Ian Ziering as Fin Shepard, a surfer who fights sharks with a chainsaw, and Tara Reid as April. Every instalment took the disaster somewhere new: New York in 'Sharknado 2: The Second One', Washington and outer space in 'Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!'.
With a new film every summer and celebrity cameos in each, 'Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens' and 'Sharknado 5: Global Swarming' followed, until 'The Last Sharknado: It's About Time' (2018) ended the series with time travel.
