About the The Visitors saga
'The Visitors' is a French comedy series directed by Jean-Marie Poiré and co-written by him with Christian Clavier. In 'The Visitors' (1993), a 12th-century knight, Godefroy de Montmirail (Jean Reno), and his squire Jacquouille (Clavier) try to travel in time to undo a mistake, but a botched spell lands them in the France of the nineties.
The clash between medieval manners and modern life, and meeting their own descendants, made the film one of the biggest hits in French film history, and Valérie Lemercier won the César for best supporting actress. The sequel, 'The Corridors of Time: The Visitors II' (1998), reunited Reno and Clavier.
Poiré also directed an American remake with the same stars, 'Just Visiting' (2001), with Christina Applegate. Reno and Clavier returned to their roles a third time in 'The Visitors: Bastille Day' (2016), which closed the French trilogy.
