About the Zootropolis saga
'Zootropolis' (2016) is one of the great successes of the Disney Classics: a city of animals where predators and prey live side by side, and an unlikely pair of investigators, Judy Hopps, the first rabbit police officer, and Nick Wilde, a con-artist fox. Directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, with Jared Bush as co-director, it won the Oscar for best animated feature and took more than $1 billion.
Behind its buddy-cop comedy, the film was about prejudice and stereotypes, and its richly detailed world, from Sahara Square to Tundratown, was enough for a series of shorts on Disney+, 'Zootopia+' (2022).
Nine years later, Jared Bush and Byron Howard's 'Zootopia 2' (2025) brought Judy and Nick back to the city's streets with a new mystery and a snake, Gary, at its heart. It took more than $1.8 billion worldwide, nearly twice the first film.
