A Very Murray Christmas

It's Christmas Eve, and Bill Murray, playing himself, is waiting in his suite at New York's Carlyle Hotel to host a live Christmas special. There's just one problem: a huge snowstorm has brought the city to a halt, and almost none of his guests can make it. His two producers won't let him cancel, so he has little choice but to go out and sing with whatever he's got.

What starts as a small television disaster turns into something else, an impromptu party in the hotel bar with the handful of guests and staff stranded by the snow, among them a bride whose wedding has just fallen apart.

'A Very Murray Christmas' reunited Bill Murray with Sofia Coppola twelve years after 'Lost in Translation'. Made for Netflix, it's a tribute to the old TV variety specials, where a star sang carols surrounded by famous friends, and Murray wrote it with Coppola and Mitch Glazer. Paul Shaffer is his accompanist on screen.

Amy Poehler, Julie White, Chris Rock, Michael Cera, Maya Rudolph, Jason Schwartzman, Rashida Jones, Jenny Lewis and David Johansen all turn up at the Carlyle, George Clooney and Miley Cyrus make appearances of their own, and there are standards like 'Baby, It's Cold Outside' and 'Fairytale of New York' along the way. It premiered on Netflix on 4 December 2015 and earned two Emmy nominations, for Outstanding Television Movie and Outstanding Music Direction. Its average across the 18 outlets collected on Movienco is 6.8 out of 10.
