Alice (Emily Beecham) is a single mother and a hard-working expert plant grower for a company dedicated to the development of new and transgenic plant species. She has been in charge of designing a very special and remarkable crimson red flower, valuable not only for its great aesthetic beauty, but also for its therapeutic benefits on a psychological and mental level. This new cinnabar plant needs to be maintained at a very special temperature as well as access to adequate food and a little bit of conversation on a regular basis to make the owner's levels of happiness increase considerably. Despite the express wishes of the company of the company, Alice takes a sample of her creation to give it to her son Joe, who baptizes the plant as "Little Joe." Soon she will realize that the flower, which theoretically had good benefits, will bring very different consequences to all those people or animals that come into contact with it. As Alice notices the changes in people around her, she realises that something sinister is going on and is forced to confront the mystery that is rapidly unfolding, even though it may reveal some truths that she does not want to hear.
