Plot
'Twist' is a British drama directed by Martin Owen based on a screenplay by Owen himself along with Sally Collett and John Wrathall. It is an adaptation of the 2014 novel by Tom Grass which, in turn, is based on the classic 'Oliver Twist' by Charles Dickens. The film is a production of Sky Cinema for its streaming platform, which premiered on January 29, 2021. It stars Raff Law in what is the first acting role for Jude Law's son.
Set in present-day London, it is an update of a timeless classic. Oliver Twist is a young thief with great skills for escaping any situation, no matter how compromising it may seem. Drawn by his abilities, the crime boss Fagin invites him to join his entourage to plan a big heist: to steal a valuable piece of art.
'Twist' features a stellar cast where, in addition to Raff Law's debut, notable actors include Michael Caine, Lena Headey, David Walliams, Sophie Simnett, and the singer Rita Ora, who also composes an original song for the film's soundtrack.
After its release, the film is panned by critics, who wonder how actors of Michael Caine's caliber agreed to participate in it. The result translates into two nominations for the 2022 Razzie Awards, for worst screenplay and worst prequel or remake.
