About the Avatar saga
James Cameron waited more than a decade for the technology he needed for 'Avatar': in 2009 he released 'Avatar', the story of a paraplegic marine who, through a Na'vi body, joins the native people of the moon Pandora. Its 3D and performance capture changed visual effects cinema, and it became one of the highest-grossing films ever, with more than $2.9 billion after its re-releases.
Thirteen years later came 'Avatar: The Way of Water' (2022), with the Sullys taking refuge among the reef people, which took more than $2.3 billion. Like the first, it won the Oscar for best visual effects. 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' (December 2025) introduced the Ash People, hostile Na'vi led by Varang. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña and Sigourney Weaver lead the cast.
Cameron shot the sequels together and plans two more films: 'Avatar 4', due in December 2029, and 'Avatar 5', in December 2031.
