About the We Are the Star saga
'Ciné si' is the world of animated tales by France's Michel Ocelot, the creator of Kirikou. It began as a television series in the late eighties with a simple idea its films repeat: two youngsters and an old projectionist meet in an abandoned cinema to make up stories, dress up and live them, travelling to the Middle Ages, ancient Egypt, feudal Japan or African and Caribbean legends.
Its hallmark is silhouette animation, black cut-out figures against bright coloured backgrounds, a technique descended from shadow theatre. 'Princes and Princesses' (2000) gathered several tales from the original series into one film.
'Tales of the Night' (2011) took the same formula into 3D and competed at the Berlin Film Festival, and 'Ivan Tsarevitch and the Changing Princess' (2016) is the third film in this collection of fables, of dragons, princesses and spells, for all ages.
