About the Pokémon saga

Pokémon was born in 1996 as a Game Freak and Nintendo game for the Game Boy, in which players catch and train creatures, and became the most lucrative entertainment franchise in the world. The anime, launched in 1997, followed Ash Ketchum and his inseparable Pikachu, and gave rise in 1998 to 'Pokémon: The First Movie', built around the clash between Mew and Mewtwo.

Since then a new film has arrived almost every year, each starring one or more legendary Pokémon: 'Pokémon: The Movie 2000', 'Pokémon 3: The Movie', 'Pokémon 8: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew' and 'Pokémon 10: The Rise of Darkrai'. For the 20th anniversary, 'Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!' (2017) retold how Ash and Pikachu became friends.

'Detective Pikachu' (2019) was the first live-action film in the series, with Ryan Reynolds voicing a detective Pikachu, and 'Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution' remade the first film in computer animation.
