About the The Purge saga
'The Purge' starts from a simple idea: in a future United States, for twelve hours each year every crime is legal, murder included. James DeMonaco wrote and directed it for Blumhouse, and 'The Purge' (2013), with Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey as a family barricaded in their home, cost around three million dollars and took close to ninety.
DeMonaco took the story onto the streets in 'The Purge: Anarchy' (2014), with Frank Grillo as a policeman out for revenge on Purge night, and turned it into political satire in 'The Purge: Election Year' (2016), with a presidential candidate who wants to end it.
Gerard McMurray's 'The First Purge' (2018) told the origin of Purge night as an experiment on Staten Island. The series continued with 'The Forever Purge' (2021) and a television series.
