Biography

She may be the most famous young star on the planet, but few remember that her story began on Spain's Costa del Sol. Millie Bobby Brown was born in Marbella on 19 February 2004, to British parents who were living in southern Spain at the time. The family returned to England when she was four and settled in Bournemouth, then packed up again when she was eight and moved to Orlando, Florida, where the young girl began to dream seriously about acting.

Eleven, the phenomenon that changed everything

She debuted at nine as the young Alice in 'Once Upon a Time in Wonderland' (2013) and passed through 'Grey's Anatomy', 'NCIS' and the miniseries 'Intruders' (2014). It was not all smooth sailing: she nearly gave up acting altogether after being rejected at an audition for 'Game of Thrones'.

Her life turned upside down at eleven. The Duffer brothers chose her to play Eleven, the telekinetic girl of 'Stranger Things', a part for which she shaved her head without blinking. The character, raised in a laboratory and nearly mute through the first season, forced her to carry everything with her eyes, and that buzz cut and bleeding nose became an instant pop icon in 2016.

The Netflix phenomenon catapulted her like no other actress of her generation: at just 13 she earned her first Emmy nomination, followed by a second the next year, and she won the Screen Actors Guild Award with the show's cast, growing up on screen alongside Winona Ryder and David Harbour, her television father. The Hawkins story said goodbye in 2025 with a fifth and final season released in three instalments between November and December, closing almost a decade of global fever.

From Enola Holmes to producer

Far from settling for television, Brown burst into cinema through the front door: she made her big screen debut as Madison Russell in 'Godzilla: King of the Monsters' (2019), a role she reprised in 'Godzilla vs. Kong' (2021).

Her masterstroke, though, came with 'Enola Holmes' (2020), in which she not only played Sherlock's quick witted little sister, with Henry Cavill as the great detective alongside Helena Bonham Carter and Louis Partridge, but also served as a producer at just sixteen, through the company she founded with her sister Paige. The film became one of the most watched originals in Netflix history at the time, and its success brought 'Enola Holmes 2' (2022) and a third instalment, 'Enola Holmes 3', expected in 2026.

At Netflix she has become a sure bet: she starred in and produced the dark fantasy tale 'Damsel' (2024), playing a princess thrown into a cave with a dragon, one of the platform's biggest hits that year opposite Robin Wright, and headlined the retrofuturistic spectacle 'The Electric State' (2025) with Chris Pratt, based on Simon Stålenhag's graphic novel and one of the most expensive films in streaming history.

Deaf in one ear and a UNICEF ambassador

Behind the stardom lies an uncommon story. Brown was born with partial hearing loss in her left ear and over the years lost her hearing on that side completely, something that has never stopped her acting or singing. She was bullied at school in England herself, an experience she has turned into a cause: in 2018 she became the youngest Goodwill Ambassador in UNICEF's history, championing children's causes and the fight against bullying, a mission that has taken her to speak at the United Nations on World Children's Day. That same year she was the youngest person ever to make Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people.

Her entrepreneurial side is just as busy: in 2019 she launched her beauty brand Florence by Mills, and in 2023 she published her first novel, 'Nineteen Steps', inspired by her grandmother's memories of the Second World War. She has even found time to study remotely at Purdue University.

A wedding with a rock star surname

Her love life linked her to rock royalty. In April 2023 she got engaged to the actor and model Jake Bongiovi, son of Jon Bon Jovi, whom she had met through Instagram, and in May 2024 they married in an intimate ceremony, capped months later with a grand celebration in Italy.

In August 2025 the couple announced they had adopted a baby girl, "our sweet baby girl", whose name and face they fiercely protect; the godfather is her castmate and best friend Noah Schnapp. She has said she would love to grow the family further one day and have biological children too.

Actress, producer, entrepreneur, author, ambassador and mother, all before turning twenty three. If this is only the first act, what on earth will the second one look like?
