In a single year, 2004, she played both the cruellest teenager and the tenderest sweetheart in American cinema, and pulled off both. That versatility defines Rachel Anne McAdams, born in London, in the Canadian province of Ontario, on 17 November 1978. Before she dreamed of acting she was a competitive figure skater until the age of 18, only later turning to theatre and graduating from York University in 2001.

Regina George and Allie: the 2004 one-two punch

After a start in the comedy 'The Hot Chick' (2002), her name exploded with two opposite roles. She was the tyrannical Regina George of 'Mean Girls' (2004), alongside Lindsay Lohan, the high school queen bee who became a generational icon. And that same year she made the world swoon as Allie in 'The Notebook', the Nick Cassavetes melodrama with Ryan Gosling, now an absolute romantic classic.
