Plot

'Battle of the Sexes' is set in 1973 and tells the story of the real-life tennis match held between the women's world number two Billie Jean King and the former, now retired, three time men?s world champion Bobby Riggs.

Riggs claimed that women made such inferior tennis players that, a fifty-five year old former player like himself could beat the current top ten players; he was so confident, he described himself as a "tennis hustler".

Riggs therefore challenged Billie Jean King (who was only 29 at the time) to a $100,000 match which became the USA's sporting event of the year.

Aptly named ?Battle of the Sexes? re-visits the iconic tennis match that is now regarded as a break-through for women?s tennis.

Emma Stone may not have starred in the film

Emma Stone was initially cast as Billie Jean King, but scheduling issues forced her to pass on the role. Brie Larson was ultimately tapped to replace Stone. After a few months, Larson dropped out. After Stone's schedule was cleared, she was able to take back the role.
