The True American

The story is based on the book by Anand Giridharadas, 'The True American: Murder and Mercy in Texas', published in 2014. Giridharadas was a columnist in The New York Times and his writing is centered mostly on India and its habitants.

'The True American' tells the story about a Bangladeshi Air Force Officer in the United States. Mark Stroman shoots against some Muslim immigrants a short time after the famous terrorist attacks on September eleventh. Raisuddin Bhuiyan, a former Bangladeshi Air Force Officer, survives from the attack, but other two foreigners were murdered. The book explores the forgiveness of the victim towards his agressor and the campaign that he does in order to save him from death row.

The film is written and directed by Pablo Larraín ('Jackie', 'The Club') and is starred by Mark Ruffalo ('Avengers: Endgame', 'Spotlight'). Annapurna Pictures was going to produce the movie with Megan Ellison ('The Ballad of Buster Scruggs', 'Hustlers') and Matthew Budgman ('American Hustle', 'Zero Dark Thirty'). The last informations point out that they are negotiating with Amazon Studios to produce the movie.

The project 'The True American' has been under development several years. Previously it was going to be directed by Kathryn Bigelow, but she decided that she preferred to be behind the production department. There is no news about when it will premiere.
