Scarlet

Juliette grows up alone with her father Raphaël in some remote part of the North of France. There they are marginalized by the rest of the town, who do not treat them in the best way, but, among themselves, they live in peace and with love and harmony. He is a World War I veteran who is now an big talented woodworker. The young woman, very passionate about singing and music, meets a strange witch one summer who promises her that, at some future time, she will see scarlet sails in the sky that will take her out of her town. Convinced that this is true, Juliette never stops believing in this prophecy.

Scarlet is a free adaptation of 'Scarlet Sails' by Alexander Grin, shot in French. Raphaël Thierry, Juliette Jouan, Louis Garrel and Yolande Moreau are the main stars of the film. In Pietro Marcelo's third fiction feature film and after the acclaimed 'Martin Eden', Marcelo presents us in 'Scarlet' a fable-tinged story about the power of women, set in rural France at the beginning of the 20th century.

After inaugurating the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival, the film was recognized with the Best Director Award (Pietro Marcelo) at the last edition of the Seville Film Festival.

Variety describes this film as "smaller, sweeter and more sensitive than Marcello's earlier work".
