Plot
In Avatar: Fire and Ash, James Cameron takes Pandora into unexplored territory by introducing the fearsome Ash People, a Na’vi clan whose culture has developed a symbiotic relationship with fire. After showcasing the more luminous and harmonious side of the Na’vi in two films, Cameron now flips the perspective: the third installment will reveal a darker and more conflicted side of Pandora, where not everything is innocence or spirituality. The Ash People embody that reverse, a society shaped by devastation and survival, whose worldview directly challenges Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their family.
As the human threat persists, Jake, Neytiri, Kiri, and Lo’ak must confront not only their old enemies —including the resurrected Quaritch and the RDA forces— but also a version of the Na’vi that questions their own beliefs. The clash between clans will unleash tensions that will redefine alliances and test family unity. Cameron warns that this installment will be the most daring of the saga, with creative decisions that may surprise —or discomfort— those who think they know Pandora.
The cast reunites Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Jack Champion, and Joel David Moore, while Oona Chaplin joins the universe as the enigmatic Varang, a central figure of the Ash People. In this new chapter, fire not only destroys: it reveals.

Ten years
The original announced release window was December of 2015. It ended up suffering nine delays due to technical issues, the COVID-19 Pandemic, the 2023 SAG and WGA strikes, and general rescheduling by Disney. The release date moved all the way to December of 2025, a full ten years later than originally intended.
End the Avatar
James Cameron was prepared to end the Avatar series after this film, if "The Way of Water" wasn't profitable, "The question is: how many people give a sh-t now?" he stated.
