Catherine Called Birdy

Birdy is a 14-year-old girl in medieval England. She is rebellious and indomitable, and refuses to even contemplate the possibility of marrying any of the potential suitors her father imposes to her. Willing to defy every rule there is, Birdy will navigate her young-adulthood fighting for her independence and for equality in this innovative coming-of-age that raises the same doubts and presents the same adolescent spirit that lives today, but set in the year 1290.

It stars Bella Ramsey, ('Game of Thrones', 'The Last of Us') who after playing roles in several series leads a feature film for the first time. She shares the screen with actor Andrew Scott ('Fleabag', 'Sherlock') her father in the film. The rest of the cast is no slouch, among which more faces from the 'Game of Thrones' saga are recognizable: Joe Alwyn, Paul Kaye, Billie Piper, Ralph Ineson, Lesley Sharp, Sophie Okonedo, Isis Hainsworth, and Dead-Charles Chapman.

'Catherine Called Birdy' is based on the novel by Karen Cushman and is written, directed and produced by the multiaward winner Lena Dunham. The director, screenwriter and lead actress of the iconic series 'GIRLS' imbues this film about a medieval girl who rebels against the most topical issues with British humour.
