Academy Awards (Oscars) 2020
Year: 2020
- Date: 09 February 2020
- Venue: Dolby Theater
The 92nd edition of the American Academy Awards was held on February 9, 2020 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. The gala had no host for the second consecutive year in a ceremony that marked a milestone by awarding Best Picture to 'Parasite', thus becoming the first non-English language film to take home this award.
'Joker' was the most nominated film of this edition, although it ultimately won only 2 of the 11 awards it was nominated for, including Joaquin Phoenix for his titular role in the film. 12 years earlier, Heath Ledger also won the statuette for the same role in 'The Dark Knight'.
Steve Martin and Chris Rock were in charge of an opening "dialogue," after which a series of actors presented the awards. Eminem, Cynthia Erivo, and Elton John were among the musical performances, which stood out for a rendition of the main theme from 'Frozen 2', "Into the Unknown", featuring 12 of the actresses and singers who voice Elsa around the world, including Idina Menzel.
The ceremony was watched on television by 23.64 million viewers through the ABC network during its 3 hours and 36 minutes duration.
